We who knew him,
Knew him not well;
Not as a husband,
Nor as a Father;
Or a Grandfather
We knew him not as those.

We knew him
As a Friend,
A Comrade,
A Stalwart,
A Republican,
A Generous Gentle Giant
With a warm ready smile.
